The anvil. One of the standard items in Wile E. Coyote's arsenal as well as a favorite implement of disaster in many a Three Stooges short. Fascinating Stuff! I enjoyed the link to the anvil vices as I was very puzzled to see my g-g-grandfather described a "coach builder's viceman" on an 1871 census. It was some time before I discovered that a viceman was a smith who worked with a vice rather than an anvil. I enjoyed seeing the tools he might have used as I've never been able to find out much about this type of smithing :)
