Outsourced Joy

My cell phone rang while I was sitting at my desk last week, and when I answered, a meek little Indian fellow asked "Hello, Brian?"

For an instant I assumed it was just someone calling about some personal chef stuff or looking for me to come fix their mother’s computer, but as soon as I verified that it was indeed me, the man told me that "my friend Bridget" had arranged for him to sing a song to me to thank me for being a good friend.  He then put down the handset of his phone and started singing a little song called "Thank You For Being You".

Turns out the fellow is from a company called Taj Tunes.com.  For a very small price, someone at Taj Tunes, which is actually IN India, will call anyone you want them to call and deliver a "singing telegram" over the phone.  There are a variety of songs to choose from to suit all manner of occasions, and they customize the song with the name of the recipient.  You can hear a sample of each of their songs at their website.  Several of them are piss-your-pants funny.

As he started to sing, the call cut out before he could finish, but he called back several minutes later and started again from the top.

Here’s my own personalized Indian singing telegram

  1. Oh I so love this junk. I don’t care if they are in Brooklyn, they have the accent and that’s what counts.
    The price is right too.
    Happy-happy-joy-joy!
