Follow-Ups
Here are some follow-ups to various things I’ve posted about:
- Back in March, I posted about a documentary called “Girls Rock” that followed a group of girls as they spent a summer at a rock-and-roll camp. I was excited about it because Charlotte has always said that she wants to be a rock star when she grows up, and here were real girls learning how to do just that. At the time of my original post, the film was supposed to screen here in the Boston area in May at the Landmark Theater in Kendall Square, Cambridge. For reasons not explained, that never took place, but now the film will be screened at the Museum of Fine Arts instead. There are two screenings, one on Thursday, July 31 at 5:45 p.m., and one on Saturday, August 2 at 1:15 p.m. I still really want to see this with Charlotte, so all things being equal I think we’ll try to go to the Saturday afternoon screening. This post at Cool Hunting reminded me to make mention of the screening change, so thank them.
- In January, I had a post about the famed fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square, which has remained empty since the plaza was originally constructed. The contest to design a new work of art to temporarily grace the plinth has ended, and the winner is a chap who plans to let anyone and everyone take a turn standing on the plinth for an hour as a living work of art. The work is entitled “One and Other” by Anthony Gormley, and it will run for 100 days. He originally proposed a 12-month exhibition, and other works in the series have been in place for as long as 18 months, so this is actually quite a short display. The Times article says that after Gormley’s project, the next work will be a replica of Nelson’s ship, HMS Victory, in a large glass bottle.
- In last week’s Sci/Tech Linkapalooza, I mentioned that NewTeeVee.com had a feature about the variety of set-top VOD boxes that are presently on the market. Now, Dave Zatz is getting ready to do the same sort of thing at his electronics blog, Zatz Not Funny.com.
