Increases in retail food prices in the United States, May 2007 v. May 2008

While our gas prices remain about half of the average price per gallon in Europe, we’re nearly caught up with other industrial countries. Meanwhile, take a look at the huge price increases in grains.

Sorry, Phil Gramm, it AIN’T just whining.

    Wonder how much of that food price increases are due to transportation related cost(s).

    The two things adversely affecting grain prices are transportation costs and the diversion of grain to ethanol production.

    Leonard and I just returned from a three week road trip and for the first time in my entire life, gasoline was significantly lower in cost when we returned - about .30 less, than it was when we first left.
