Seven “C”s and Ten Commandments

The Friendly Atheist shares a list of atheist values written by the president of the group Minnesota Atheists, August Berkshire, entitled “The Seven Cs of Atheism”. To sum them up very quickly they are:

  • conservative (note the lower-case “c”, please)
  • clarity
  • consistent
  • contradiction-free
  • courage
  • consequences
  • conclusion (well, not a value itself, better to say “in conclusion”)

As an excellent companion list, Best Of The Blogs’ Ted McLaughlin shares Bertrand Russell’s 1951 piece “The Liberal Decalogue”. Of these, I personally like the last one the best:

Do not feel envious of the happiness of those who live in a fool’s paradise, for only a fool will think that it is happiness.
