It’s A Trivia Challenge AND A Typing Test

See how well you can do with this quiz: you have to type in as many names of countries as you can in five minutes.

There are 195 countries in the world today. Spelling counts. I don’t think it’s possible to get anywhere near all of them unless you are an insanely fast typist and make no mistakes. The best I could manage was 80.

Don’t Know Much About Nothin’ At All

I suppose some of you are still reeling from that nasty-ass quiz on the Periodic Table last week. Look at it this way: just how often do you really need to know about the atomic weight of Gallium anyway?

This quiz should make you feel a little better. It’s a geography quiz appearing in the St. Louis Dispatch based on the 2006 National Geographic survey of geographic literacy among Americans aged 18-24 (a.k.a “The Dumbest Generation”). There are only eight questions, and I would expect anyone who is a regular reader here to be able to answer all eight correctly. If you do, pat yourself on the back that’s you’re smarter than those damn youngsters even if you can’t spell Molybdenum.

Fugawi!

Map Of The World

My online friends and I used to occasionally play a geography quiz game we called “Fugawi”. The idea was to guess the correct location based on clues about the place. Our friend Richard was the undisputed master of Fugawi, so much so that after a fashion we made him be the game host rather than let him kick our sorry butts yet again.

I miss playing Fugawi (among the other various games and activities in the forum), but this Flash-based geography quiz game is deucedly difficult and ought to keep anyone who thinks they know their map of the world amply challenged.

I got as far as Level 11 (out of 12) with a final score of 470,039 points. Turns out my weakness is places in Australia and the South Pacific.
