Snappy Patter And All

My wife and daughter are both HUGE “Gilmore Girls” fans. I think it’s pretty safe to say that they’ve watched every single episode at least half a dozen times, if not many, many more, and even though we have all seven seasons on DVD, Bridget *STILL* tapes every episode every day on the DVR in the bedroom. Charlotte, for her part, is a heavy-duty Rory wanna-be (when she is not being a Selena Gomez wanna-be or a Hannah Montana wanna-be or a Demi Lovato wanna-be)…at least in terms of her fashion choices if not Rory’s impossible bookish-girlness. She’s even decided that she wants to go to Yale (good luck with that, kid). Clearly the whole mother-daughter best friends thing really speaks to them, along with the prickly-sweet relationship with the grandmother. For me, the whole show is too cute for its own good by about half, but I don’t suppose I am the intended demographic for that show in the first place.

The show wrapped up after its seventh season, since the creator-producer and creative animus behind the show quit at the end of the sixth season over a money dispute with ABC. But in our fan-driven online age, you just KNOW that someone, somewhere was doing Gilmore Girls fanfic, and you would be right. Continuing from where the storyline left off, they’ve produced three “seasons” of stories. I’m only a little surprised that they haven’t started making their own videos and posting them on YouTube, but one thing at a time, I guess.

Oh, and, of course, there’s the inevitable Gilmore Girls slashfic for some other demographics who see the mother-daughter thing in a COMPLETELY different light.
