You Need To Read Shakespeare..Dickens In The Original Klingon

Chicago theatrical company Commedia Beauregard will launch their 100%-Klingon production of A Christmas Carol later this month, with previews beginning this week. As their website proudly announces, this is the ONLY production of this version of the holiday classic being performed ANYWHERE this year. In case you were wondering.

I wouldn’t expect any bad reviews. The last time someone panned the show, he was found impaled by a bat’leth in an alley off Michigan Avenue.

Personally, I would hold out for the one-man Klingon Christmas Carol starring Christopher Plummer. After all, if Patrick Stewart can pull it off, Plummer should have no trouble conveying the true meaning of QISmaS.

I guess they must be getting closer to actually going online with the much-touted Star Trek Online MMORPG, because now there’s a trailer you can view that purports to demonstrate the myriad combinations of alien races you can design…as long as your idea of an alien is a humanoid with some forehead ridges or maybe some antennae. I mean, you can’t blame the producers of the TV series for having to work within the context of using human actors, and you especially can’t get too mad at Gene Roddenberry’s people for only being allowed enough budget for papier mache and Play-Doh, but you’d think people designing a virtual universe could be a little more imaginative. C’mon fellas, you can do it!

Meanwhile, speaking of turtleheads, I got a chortle out of this video about a little old lady who teaches Klingon language lessons:

What’s The Word For GEEEEEEEEEK In Klingon?

While J.J. Abrams is getting ready to “reboot” the original Star Trek with the new movie he’s making, which will reportedly star Matt Damon as Captain Kirk, a bunch of comic book guys are bringing out a five-part series of comics retelling many of the encounters between Captain Kirk and his crew and the Klingons from the Klingon point of view.

The series is called “Star Trek: Blood Will Tell” and revisits such notable incidents as the unleashing of thousands of accursed tribbles on board a Klingon starship by the war criminal Montgomery Scott.

But wait, it gets even better…the comics will be published in the original Klingon, with an English translation available so you can read along if you’re not quite fluent in T’hlingan.

(Extra geek points available for the first fanboy/fangrrl who can tell me who the three Klingons are in the picture above and how the picture relates to this post)
