Mad-Lib Blogging

MadLibs

This post has been moved from the sidebar to the main column to try to drum up a few more participants….SO PARTICIPATE!!

I’m a bit light on material at the moment, so I am turning to you, loyal readers, to help me come up with something.

The gimmick I want to use is based on the game “Mad Libs”, where the audience provides a set of words that are then plugged into a story that they have not had a chance to see beforehand. The story is then read aloud with the random nouns, adjectives, and whatnot inserted into blanks in the story, often to hilarious effect, especially if you are under the age of 12.

So here’s the deal. I am going to write a couple of typical BKO-style posts with critical items left out, and you get to fill in the blanks. I will insert them into the story and add links to stuff on the web that relates to the word you suggested, and then post the completed article. As with Mad Libs, you won’t know what the posts are until I publish them with the blanks filled in, and hopefully this will be “fun”.

Post #1:
1. a man’s name
2. an adjective
3. a kind of food
4. a well-known brand name
5. a specific date
6. a color
7. a mammal
8. a noun
9. a transitive verb
10. a number higher than 20

Post #2:
1. a bird
2. a form of transportation
3. a specific smell (e.g. “fresh-baked cookies” or “smoke”, not “rancid” or “rotten”)
4. a noun
5. a major international city
6. a kitchen implement
7. a female celebrity
8. an adjective
9. an adverb
10. an emotional state

How to contribute:

You may suggest ONE item by posting a comment here (do not e-mail me your suggestions). I will use the FIRST suggestion for each item (based on the timestamp of when the comment was received). Please be sure to indicate which item you are contributing (for example: Post #1, Item #3). You do not have to stick to the order of the list: you may make your suggestion for ANY unclaimed item.

If more than a couple of days go by without completing the list, I’ll let you know via a comment here that it is okay to make a second suggestion for an unclaimed item.

I’ll publish the filled-in posts over in the main column as they are completed.

No, I haven’t gone insane, I’m just getting all my new must-try recipes from this Random Recipe Generator. Who wouldn’t LOVE “Pizza-Style Porridge Oats” or “Ham With Ham Dressing” or “Coffee A La Vinegar”?

I note that the creator of the site is English, so to him these probably seem like perfectly reasonable recipes. :-p
